It was a strong start from the whole team in our first match of the season against the Berkeley Vale Panthers.

All the boys played well, especially in defence. Man of the Match Hudson tackled hard all game and bagged a double as well.

Coaches award went to Cj who in his first game of league ran hard, tackled well and held his line in defence all game.

Ashton and Matari both had solid games in their first game of league. Braxton and Kobi ran hard all game and were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. Hugh had numerous long range raids, scoring once and keeping the opposition guessing with his fancy footwork.

Zaine, Zack and Nathan all had strong games, tackling any player that came their way and had strong runs throughout the match. Zaine bagged a try, Zack a double and Nathan a hat trick.

Great team effort today.
Good vision from today’s Captain Oran to sneak in for a try set up by Josh followed by a great conversion from Lincoln.
Great hit ups by our forwards Sonny, Nash, Blade and Ty to gain meters and our backs Cooper M, Cooper B, Reef and Lachlan scrambled well in defence and good runs from the taps from Jacob.

Player of the Match was Ty for great all round defence and attack efforts.

Positive start to the game, defended back to back sets on our line to then gain possession and turn it over to the 2018 grand finalists.

We defended gallantly in our own 20 and kept turning up for each other. We looked to be shifting momentum in attack and defence until the Entrance hooker made a scoot from dummy half and ran 60 metres for the first points of the game.

Following the kick off, we lifted our intensity and were looking dangerous with the ball - turned it over from an error which we defended well. The style in the forwards was physical and back and forth. Josh's committed defence accompanied with Taj, Coby, Broc and Noah's runs saw us in striking distance.

Once again we were unable to cross the line. Errors in the first half compounded by penalties kept the entrance on the attack. We rallied before halftime to create an opportunity to score only to have the ball intercepted and The Entrance player ran the length to score.

Trailing 18-0 at the break, we were confident of gaining on The GF runners-up if we held the ball and maintained good field position. The second half was a lot better and we muscled up in defence and asked questions in attack.

Strong runs from Taj and Coby endured we were in a position to score points and determined run from Noah got us over the line. Brodie Munsie was strong at hooker and defensively sound picking his time to run well. Our halves directed us around well in the second half.

One on one missed tackles due to fatigue continued to allow The Entrance good field position and they crossed the line twice more.

The kids played extremely well and four tries from intercepts, a missed tackle and fatigue unfortunately does not reflect the effort, commitment and physicality of the game.

Taj got Man of the match with Coby, Josh and Munsie getting 2 points and 1 point going to Taken, Zacoda and brad.

An impressive start to the season for the boys with a HUGE win over the Budgewoi/Warnervale team.

There were lots of nerves before the game from our new recruits who were playing their first full game of Rugby League. This was quickly overcome, with multiple tries scored in quick succession starting from our first set in possession. As time went on, every player stepped up with high quality performances from the entire team.

Both awards this week go to new additions to our team. Who, in their first game of Rugby League, each managed multiple line breaks, resulting in long range tries.
Coach and Managers’ award: Blake Taylor
Players’ Player: Kallen Maarschalk.

Final score:  Northern Lakes: 70 Defeated Budgewoi/Warnervale: 0
