Match Reports - Round 2

Under 8 Gold

It was another solid game from the u8 Gold team who travelled to Woy Woy to play the Roosters and came away happy kids with their efforts.
The team is starting to put some of the things they are learning on the training paddock into the game, which is pleasing to see. None of the kids had played Woy Woy before and it was a good, evenly matched contest for the entire game.
MOM Nathan had a great all round game, directing the team and runs at first receiver in the first half,  scoring twice, kicking a goal and strong in defence all game. Coaches award went to Zack who held his line all game, tackled hard and had strong runs throughout the match. He was rewarded for his efforts with a  try and a goal.
Xanda in his first game of the season fed the ball well from dummy half throughout the first half and had some good carries to get the team on the front foot.
Matari and Ashton put in effort all game and had some good touches and will continue to improve as their first season of rugby league progresses. Cj had another good game, with some quality runs and good tackling throughout the match.
Kobi and Hudson were impressive all game with their line speed in defence and pressuring the opposition when they had the ball.
Hugh once again had good long range runs and crossed for a try.

Under 10 Div 3

Great defensive effort from all of the team today moving up in a line with plenty of talk!
Our team was down 4 players prior to starting however thanks to the under 9’s Brock, Hunter & Kye backing up we had a close scoring match against Wyong.

Our Captain today Jacob led the way with a good all round effort followed by some great meter gaining hit ups from Blade, Cooper B & Oran the boys worked hard to score some entertaining try’s to Reef, Cooper M, Sonny & Hunter most of which converted by the try scorers plus the assistance of Josh & Lincoln who kicked them over the black dot

Match player for this week went to Sonny for his try scoring & defensive efforts.

Under 11 Div 1

First game for the season after a bye in round 1 saw us play Wyong 1 at Blue Haven Oval.

As a tough call to start the season our team played with their hearts on their sleeves, and left
nothing in the tank against them.
Despite being 3 players down with only 1 on the bench and injuries inflicted upon us galore!, we continued to tackle hard, make runs, and although held scoreless in the end, the determination, sportsmanship, and never give up attitude, along with some stunning hit ups, drives, ankle taps, kicks, and galant players fronting up to a force that was frankly rattled by our persistency, and get back up and play on commitment by all players.
It was a highly commendable effort from the whole team. Huge thanks to Billy and Michael who backed
up for us, All the parents who helped and supported, and a big congrats to Jimmy who played a
100% blinder of a game to score man of the match!
Let’s go Warriors! You are all champions in our eyes and your sportsmanship could not be faulted keep it up !!

Under 13 Div 3

Another great game from the boys this week over last year’s grand final winners, Wyong.
Strong attacking runs from all the forwards saw us gain and maintain quality field position and put plenty of points on the board. At times, Wyong mounted pressure off the back of penalties but solid defence meant they were kept scoreless.
Confidence is high after 2 huge wins but it’s still early days and complacency and over-confidence pose a potential problem as we face Umina/Woy Woy and long-time rivals, Erina in the coming rounds. A continuation of the effort and drive we’ve seen so far will take them a long way to overcoming this.
Coach and Manager’s award: Lucas Sant
Players’ Player: Jai Holbrook
Final score: Northern Lakes: 50 -def- Wyong: 0.

Under 14 Div 3

Northern lakes Warriors 14 -Def- The Entrance 12

We went into today’s game with only 12 players. This meant it was always going to be a tough day.
We focussed hard on our defence and fitness this week at training combined with a few positional changes. This resulted in a defensive line that was much quicker off the line and slid when required. Also we saw a much quicker and deeper attacking style of play.
We went into half time 12 - 0 behind though. We didn’t drop our heads and talk at halftime was upbeat and full of positivity.
The second half saw our defence step up another gear and with two tries in very quick succession saw us come back to 12 all.

A penalty was awarded to us due to The Entrance being offside on their drop out, which saw us take a penalty kick right in front with 5mins to take the lead for the first time out to 14 - 12.
We held on from here to take our first win.
This was a courageous fight back and all the boys can be very proud this week.
With our backs against the wall, we dug in, never gave up and supported one another like true Warriors do.

Tries to Jett and Toby. Conversions went to Cameron and Leon x 2.

This year we are running 2 players of the day.
One for Coaches award for best player which went to Jett.
The other one is trainers award (or otherwise known as Waterboy award) which combines training during the week as well as how well they put that into game day.
Today’s Waterboy award went to Toby.
Huge effort by all the boys today.
Well done.
